Following the advice here, I thought I'd grease my non-greasable jackshaft and drive axle bearings. Jackshaft bearing looked great so I packed some grease in and put the seal back on. This is what the axle bearing looks like. Should I just clean it out with WD-40 and pack it or is this one to bring to the dealer for warranty replacement? Sled is only two years old with just under 4k miles.

Replace it. Rust and crud on and about races, you will never get it clean enuf. Better to replace than take a chance on it going and screwing the chassis.

X2. Definitely replace it.

I would take the bearing all the way out and look closer. Just loosen the two T-20 torx set screw on the bearing collar, then pop it out and pop the seal off the other side. You get to the set screws inside the tunnel by the track and drive cogs. Usually they can be cleaned well and re-packed with new grease. If they are in that bad of shape, I would replace

I'd first flush the grease out with a spray can of electrical contact cleaner. It works great for removing and dissolving grease and doesn't leave any residual cleaning solution since it dries up so fast. Then WD40 the little bastard, and see what the bearing looks like. Mine looked similar to your pic after only 3000 miles and 1 yr of ownership. I didn't replace my bearing, and now I make sure to just clean and lube it every 1000-1500 miles or so. Still looks good at 5000 miles. No rust.
throw out the bearing band replace every year 5$ bearing not worth the damage or inconvienence

I was going to bring to the dealer and make them replace under warranty since Yamaidiots didn't bother to put grease fittings on them. Can you replace the bearing without removing the axle? If so, then I wouldn't mind doing it myself. This is one of a small number of items on this sled that I really can't believe their engineers are just that f*cking dumb!

Replace it, once its rusted it get all PITTED and worthless anew will cost you $30.00 or so, now that you know how its GREASE dependable, grease it mid season and when you summerize your sled and it'll last a long time...your JACKSHAFT is good once a year.
youre 3/4 there loosen track remove boltand sensor wheel, loosen the 2 set screws remove the bearing

anyone who owns an apex needs to know to GREASE IT.
buy a grease needle and drill i tiny hole in cover and grease it,no more replacing it.
its not that they are expensive, but its the fact they can be a pain in #*$&@ to get off shaft, and also the only reason they go bad is cause of lack of grease and water entering them.
replace it,grease it once a month INSEASON and then grease it good before you put sled to bed in spring,it will then last and last.

I also reccomend taking it off every year or so to prevent RUST & CORROSION on end of drive shaft, sand the rust off and apply ANTISEIZE and that bearing will SLIDE right off the next time you have to remove it.

snerkman, how many miles are on that bearing.
I too think its unblievable that they don't have a grease fitting on these.. Even polaris puts grease fittings on their bearings.. WTF...

Sled has just under 4000 miles. I've had 5 Doo's and 3 Poo's and they all had zerks on the jackshaft and drive axle. This is a huge WTF was Yamaha thinking??
Last question: Can I get a new bearing from an industrial bearing supplier or do I have to go to the stealer?
