So I'm thinking maybe the snowies next year instead of the CDT. Will I like it down south or should I stay where I know the area? We have been going to the Dubois area for 15 years and now think maybe its time for a change. Just don't want to drive 1800 miles and not be happy with where we are. Thanks for your input.

Have rode in both area's. If I were you I would try the Snowies for a change of pace, both area's are really good. I think the Snowies are a great area and it's a couple hours closer, which never hurts. I don't think I could pick one over the other. I like you have rode the Dubois area alot more, just because the group I go with seems to like to go to the same spot all the time. We stopped at Centennial for a couple of days, on the way back from Dubois. I really enjoyed the Snowies. The only thing that I really see as different is, in Dubois you can ride right out of were you are staying, were in Centennial you are in town and trailer up to the staging area, but it is no big deal. Short drive and really a nice area. Try it I think you will like it. You could always split up a trip like we did and try it out.

Thanks Agman 57. That's was I was looking for. Someone that has done both. Think we may have to try it. I have heard that you don't have to go as far to get to play areas. That would be nice.
Where does your group stay when you are in Dubois?

Hi Ratpack, first time I went out we stayed at the Sawmill Lodge, next time we stayed at Lava Mtn. Lodge, then Crooked Creek and would like to stay at the Line Shack sometime, have ate there, but never lodged there. Might also be fun to stay at Togwotee Lodge or Brooks Lake Lodge, but I thing the last two would be really pricey? Where do you guys usually land?

Here is the list.
The place
Sawmill
Crooked creek
The last 6 years we have been renting a house. It will be very hard not to do that next year. When we used to stay at crooked creek they would not lock the door. Because I can't get myself off of east coast time, I get up at 2:30-3:00 am. If I started the coffee and a fire they would let me in whenever. The last couple of owners would not do that. I heard that the new owners are nice but we didn't make it over there this year.
The thing that we did different this year was rent. WOW. Those pro RMK's are pretty nice. It took me two days just to get stuck. I would try to go where I knew I wouldn't make it just cause 400 pounds is so easy to get unstuck.
If you are ever interested in a house let me know. The one we stay at is nice and there are more back there.

When we go to the CDT area, we stay at MacKenzie Highland Ranch. We have been going there sinse 1986. We also go to the Snowies every other year. We stay at Medicine Bow Lodge. We ride right from the door there, and the hosts, the Biships, are very good people. BTW, this is also where Yamaha goes for photo shoots at times.
Its hard to say which area is better. The nice thing about the Snowies for us, is that its closer, by 8 hours.

You want to hear how small a world it is, The new owners of Crooked Creek live and farm in Minn. and are neighbors to my Cousins that farm in Minn. That would be neat to go out west all winter and run a lodge!

It would be a rough life. Only problem is, I don't think you would ever have time to ride.

Ratpack, where was the house you rented? Also, we were told the Sawmill has been sold.

The house was on Crooked Creek rd. Behind the cabins at Crooked Creek. There are a couple of houses back there that are for rent. I heard that a church group of some sort bought the Sawmill.
