OK so im looking to do a few little things to my sled.
I really don't want to get to crazy on modifying the sled but i would like to gain a little performace as well as shave a few pounds off this thing.
Here is what i was thinking as far as performance goes pretty much all from Ulmer Racing:
CR10EK plugs
Stealth Air Box mod
Clutch
Gear
Now for for the tricky part. Weight Saving. Basically i intend to see now gain in this really because once i put all my gear in my storage bags i'll probably gain it all back. Whats the easiest way to save 25 pounds on an Apex.
I found a lightweight battery from Mountain Performance.
http://www.mountainperformance.com/yama ... _parts.htm
Its a little pricey but it does save 10 pounds. Anyone here have any experience with it?
Anyone else with any other suggestions.
Thanks
Mike

GOOD LUCK gettin this sleds lighter is not easy. Have not heard of lighter bat. seems go idea. There is lighter exhaust out .(excel) and probly other good ones. This site is good for help with ideas like u have. again GOOD LUCK

I believe that battery may be 10 pounds lighter than the RX 1 battery but not the Apex. May want to double check that before you spend the cash.

I can check it again the battery my uncle has in an RX1. Its not stock but should be about the same as stock. I know my battery is pretty heavy.
I came across these front end kits by CB performance. They are expensive, and look good but $1000.

Looks to me like they only sell RX1 kits right now but i believe the RX1 and Apex have the same front suspension.

I Looked into that battery as well. Price and low reserve capacity killed the decision for me, but 10 pounds off the nose is huge. Combine that with a Chrom-moly front end kit and that is a significant weight loss. Fox floats also much lighter than stock shocks.
I tried the lightweight, wide front end kit from Pioneer performance ($500), but found it couldn't stand up to the thrashing I dish out(that's it in my avatar). I suspect it would suffice on the trail.

That gel-battery is what you guys are talking about and it should save 10lbs. The seat and the exhaust are two others that have been changed without degrading the integrity of the machine. You may also want to look at snowest.com as they have an article called the apex weight loss program where they talk about things the mountain guys are doing.

What happened to the front edn kit? Did they A-arms crack or something. I suppose it wouldnt be worth it on the Apex, they only claim a 3 pound weight savings over stock. If its not going to with stand a beating its probably not worth it.
I think I would be better off with the battery and exhaust at this point. Maybe like said above i can check that snowest.com

They flexed and twisted more and more each ride. To the point where the spindles were straight up and down. They seem alot lighter than stock, I was told 7 lbs. For three lbs I wouldn't recommend it.

Interesting. Looks pretty good. To bad they make alot of lightweight stuff for the RX1. That battery looks better than the first one i saw from mountain performance but they don't put actual weights just weight savings which is pretty stupid.
