I have an '03 shorty. I think I have a problem. I brought it to my Yamaha Dealer and they said that there is nothing wrong with it, but I tend to disagree. When I back off of the throttle, as I am decelerating, I have plenty of engine brake. As soon as I hit approximately 30 mph, it just seems to free wheel with zero engine brake. Is this normal? Or can anyone possibly give me a reason for the problem?
Yes this is normal, don't know why but it is.
Mine does it and so did the 03 demo sled I rode, my friends and the 04 I rode at the demo day last year all sis the same thing

Could it be that the clutch is disengaging at 3,000?

58, my RX-1 is the same. It is not a problem, just an undocumented feature.

Yeah me too!
I've noticed that since I put the HH's in it free wheels much much better. I kinda miss the engine braking to tell ya the truth. Seems to take more to slow it down now. Wondering if thats a good thing?
