How many of you are running front mounts in the mountains. I ride 50% in trees and boondocking and 50% climbing. My only concern is since both of those are usually slow moving, will there be enough air to cool it or is it a non issue? Also, anyone know how many gallons a NE turbos tank holds???

Rt

Rideblue on here has a boondocker kit. He rides maybe 75% trees/boondocking and has zero problems with heat. It works great.

it only gets realy hot when you are hard on the throttle if you are goin slow its a none issue. it seems worse when snow is very deep over hood all the time has yet to be a real issue at all with me i run the alpine kit at 15-16 pounds boost on av gas over 2000km not a prob on my vector ;)! ;)! .alpine kit is a gallon less.

Rideblue has his air intake sticking out of the hood though. For someone that didn't want to "butcher" the hood, it could be an issue of finding a way to get cool air to the kit. IMO

There has only been a few heat issues with boondockers side mount.

1. Getting cold air to the turbo intake. Took the screen out of the hood just above the turbo and 90ed the filter out side the hood. Didnt have to do any "butchering" to the hood, but have to take filter off any time i need to lift the hood, which has been very little. All forced inducted sleds, turboed or super charged, suffer from this porblem in one way or another. You have to get creative with ways to get cold air into the compressor.

2. Oil tank heat getting to float bowls. The oil tank is relocated where the battery tray was. So oil tank is very close to the carbs. It has only been an issue when i do a lot of stopping and starting. If the sled can idle for a minute or so before it is shut off, the heat sink to the carbs is not as bad. Worst when sitting for 15 minutes or so (stuck or getting someone unstuck). Tried water wetter in coolant on last ride with good results. Going to insulate the float bowls from the oil tank and install blanket on the turbo tonight. That should take care of the carb heat.

A mesh hood would take care of a lot of the heat issues but have not checked to see if any one is making a hood for the RX/RS with a notch in it for apex style relocated steering post or not.

I have spent more time keeping the bolts tight on my steering post relocation than i have messing with heat issuses with the turbo!

I have a powderlites kit and no heat issues riding in neck deep powder going slow at 19 lbs but I couldn't hold it to the bar very long.....trees come out of nowhere real fast.

Diamond S is making a mesh hood for the Apex, RX-1, and Vector. They work great with no interference with air filters on the Boondocker kits.
