2011 XTX Nytro
I have 2011 XTX bought new 2 months ago.Have 700 mile on her already. While reading manual prepareing for 1st oil change I discovered that Yamaha is recomending just regular gas...86 octane...Is this right?Have been useing premium...91 octane...is there enough difference to justify difference in price? 2nd question..I was sure that the yamalube was 0w40,so I bought amsoil 0w40....I read the sled calls for 0w30 what should I use? Thanks in advance for any and all help or opinions :rocks:

I switched from amsoil back to yamalube. Used amsoil in my chaincase, and now my chain feels tight, or has sticky spots in it that dont pivot easily. Also, i bought the yamalube full synthetic, cause it has ester in it. Amsoil doesnt. Im not saying amsoil sucks, im just saying yamalube is better.

87 octane gas is fine. I do run premium in my Nytro, cause it doesn't contain any ethanol. If i go to a gas station that has ethanol in all grades, then I'll put in 87 to save $$. I believe the Nytro is designed to have an ethanol tolerance of 10%. I also use sta-bil's ethanol treatment. I know startron also make a product like that, and i think its also a good product.

After I did the first oil change on my Nytro, I used Mobil1 0W-40,after that my temp light started coming on every so often. Switched back to Yamalube 0W-30 and the light stays off, unless idleing for extended periods.

*^ or 87 is fine use it all the time except towatds the end of the season I try and put ethanol free in before storage.. As far as oil goes IMHO I think you stick with Yamalube, might be a little more pricey but its the recommended, not saying not to use anything else but I have been on Yamaha since my 74 GPX and using Yamalube since day 1, zero problems, including lawnmowers, weedeater dirtbike, etc. etc. Just my opion so no bashing me guys.. ;)!
