Just planning the following 4 day run. I would love some advice on lodging, gas and spots to eat along the way. We also questioned our distances but thought that the big trails up north would help with the amount of km’s per day that we could put on.
So here it is;
1. Day One – Kirkland Lake to Hearst
a. Approx 500km
2. Day Two – Hearts to Dubreuilville
a. Approx 350km
3. Day Three – Dubreuilville to Foyleyet
a. Approx 350km
4. Day Four – Foleyet to Kirkland Lake
a. Approx 290km
We know where we are staying in Kirkland Lake but the other three are up in the air. Any help is appreciated

Check with Luc (Groomer Guy on OntarioConditions.com) for Dubreuilville. Haven't been there in a few years, but Luc is a big help up there.

I can comment a little on the kirkland lake to hearst ride, Your first stop on a nytro should be around Matheson (dependant on throttle position lol), You will want to eat lunch by the time you get to cochrane, (North adventure inn) is a nice sled stop. Probably will have to fill up in Cochrane, then fill up again in Smoothrock Falls(Smoothie's Esso) is also a nice and busy sled stop, Kapuskasing (Casey's Bar and Grill) and then hearst. Cochrane to hearst is often reffered to as the corridor because of its long straights and very well manicured trails. Kirkland to Iroquois Falls is usualy the roughest part of that leg and the rest is typicaly A1. Have fun!! If by any chance you should break down on this leg here is my number feel free to carry it on you I am well equiped to lend a hand. 7052328751

Thanks Luc and much appreciate the number. I'm really hoping that we don't need it but I will never turn away a helping hand. Thanks for the info as well. I didn't know if Kirkland to Hearst was doable in a day but by the sounds of it we should be ok. Looking forward to the ride. BTW do you have much on the ground right now.

Ontarioconditions.com and freedomsledder.com in the Ont section will provide some great up to date info for you.
Sounds like a great trip, hope this weather fiasco turns around shortly for you!

trip
I think the key to your trip will be finding a place to stay your second night Dubreuilville, not much open anymore? have done the area several times, kirkland to hurst will be a long straight day, hi speed, we always stay at the Companion in Hurst, clean indoor snowmobile garage available, There was a Yamaha dealer in kapuskasing? plenty of gas stations on this leg.
From hurst to your next location -Dubeuilville You will need to get gas in hornpayne, most of the town is shut down, you will need to confirm the gas station will be open w/gas. Last year the plaza/mall was closed down. This is a great ride, my favorite leg of any trail I have ever ridden. This will push most sleds to there max on gas, 2 strokes need to carry gas.
from hornpayne to dube is a short ride, Gas was still available at the saw mill in dubeuilville last year, you will need to check before starting your trip. This town is also closed down because of the mill closing, we only stayed in dube 1 time do to a breakdown, I would continue to WAWA and stay @ the wawa motor lodge, lots of hotels, food places, gas. I don't think you are going to have much luck in dudeuilville. Wawa is out of the way in the wrong direction but is a EZ ride if you travel on the magpie? river, ( depending when you plan to do this trip. ) the river is marked,. you may need to ride this section twice or the trail one day and the river the second. Or try to stay in missanabie (ERNIES-)or hawk juntion as a option. We do wawa to hearts in a day EZ
ernies to chapleau is 165 miles or
chap to timmins via foylet is 180 miles
day 3 will depend a lot on where you stay night 2, you may want to stay in chapleau the third night, we were trying to go from hearst to chapleau the night we stayed in dube. I would not recommend trying it. It can be done with good trail conditions, but it is VERY long day. there is a nice hotel in chapleau/restaurant,
day 4 chapleau to kirkland lake has plenty of spots for food & gas. also is a long haul, but plenty of places to cut the days ride short if needed, you will be tired by now. and a short am ride is always fun.
Option: start in Timmins/area the same first day, much shorter and doable on day 4
This is only opinion, based on my (10,000 plus miles US ) that I have rode in district 14/15. Make sure you have a back up plan for a brokedown sled. Leave your keys with your truck & trailer, We have paid people to drive our truck a couple of times to pick up a broken sled. We like a group of 4, to many people its hard to keep up the pace needed for the miles needed in a day on these trips.
best time to ride this for me- march
good luck

went to kapuskasing today by truck, and the groomers are definately working on the trails and they look pretty decent. Just got a good dump 6-8" this past weekend. sleds are out!! kl to kap has snow now. just a matter of getting the groomers to tame the bumps.
