How do ski skins do on the trails

I have a 06 Nytro, I need better floatation from the skis. Trying to decide between yamaha mountain skis or skins. How do the skins do on the trails? I have read on here the mountains are a good overall ski. The skins are cheaper about $65 new. Compared to the mountains that go for $200 used and more new. I ride about 500 to 800 miles a year, so not sure about spending the extra $.

Had skins on my ltx vector they floated a bit better but handling sucked not much for keel. Thats off and on trail

Ya, I had a feeling those skins wouldn't handle well on the trails. I can't see the bottoms from the pics on yamaha website. Didn't know what kind of keel it had on it. Did you go to the mountain skis?

put on a set of doo skis 6.9s. never got a chance to try them yet its been 40 be;ow here for couple of weeks

i have a set of the mountain skiis for my nytro but, will get a set of skins for the wife's vector, as we run snow trackers on both. ps.... don't forget when factoring costs you will also need the following parts to put the mountain skiis on your machine:

2 new ski rubbers
2 new ski bolts
4 new ski bolt collars

close to $ 100 in all

and you still need good carbides for the mountain skiis (i use snow trackers on mine). i don't know if i would go this route if i did it again??? i have yet to try them out to see how well they will work, missing 1 pc (back ordered)for install .
