How does 2002 RKM 700 compare to XTX?

comparison.

I can only give you a partial comparison as I never owned a 700 RMK. You'll find it has a lot more power and this is very noyicable. If your mountain riding in deep snow and get stuck it is very heavy up front. It will use far less fuel and the motor will last forever compared to a 700 2 stroke. The rear suspension would compare favorably. The seating position on the XTX blows the old polaris away! Your arms won't get so tired pulling you up to a standing position.

I'd guess around 125 HP for a polaris 700 in 2002. The magazines say the new 800 is between 135 and the claimed 152. They say it is no 152...
There is no comparison between your old 700 and this new 4 stroke. It feels like a bull under the hood.

I'm coming off of a 2002 edge rmk 700. I wanted to know how the nytro xtx compared to it. Have a xtx on the way.

Totally different. I had an '03 Edge RMK 700 151 and to this day think that's one of the best machines Polaris ever made. It rode great even in bumps considering the 151 and did all things pretty darned well. But, it was an Edge so the sled responded best to getting the rider weight back and riding it on the rear suspension. Kiss that thinking goodbye. The XTX is a rider forward machine. The further forward and lower you can keep your weight the better. The balance is excellent and it handles deep snow particularly well for a 144 x 1 1/4, but don't expect it to out-climb or out-sidehill an RMK. It does not shine in the bumps for me but that's a shock issue that I can solve. The comfort of the seated and standing positions are the best of any machine I've ever ridden. With a big windshield you won't sacrifice much to the wonderfully warm-to-ride RMK, but you will sacrifice a little. The power delivery is different and I doubt you'll be disappointed, but you won't think the RMK was weak by comparison. Yamaha reduced engine braking but it's still there compared to your old ride. The steering control is way better on the XTX than it ever was on any Edge, but that's true of all the rider forward sleds. Get out in the snow and carve some S turns. If you get lazy the XTX will spit you over the high side because it can change directions so fast. You'll notice a severe lack of storage space compared to the Polaris, but that's common with all the new, tightly-cowled sleds.

Both machines are fun, fun, fun to ride. They are different beasts. I'll look forward to reading about YOUR impressions.

I owned an 02 Polaris 800 Edge X with a 121" and Poo rated that engine @ 138-140hp. Don't know exact numbers but I'm guessing your 700 would have been 125-130hp. I know one thing, my 800 was a decent machine and performed quite well with the clutching and gearing I had done to it but it never pulled like this thing does out of the hole and in the mid! Prolly best to get ready to look like an ape cuz your arms are gonna get longer from that beloved 4 stroke torque!!!

Okay, I've owned a 2002 700 rmk and a 2002 800 rmk at the same time I have owned my 144 08 Nytro.
The rmk definitly gets on its side better, side hills better , and as far as climbing in comparison they are close. Keep in mind my nytro had the 1.75 track on it. My 700 had every bolt on part on it that you could buy, the race would be close in 600 feet but the 700 would run it down ( not easily though). The 800 was a full mod so I can't really compare.
One thing I can say though, Nytro using regular gas is awesome. The transition from sitting to standing, no comparison, Nytro hands down. Gas milage, nytro's better. The nytros ride, waaaaay better with no more back aches. No more pulling the rope, no more jetting, no more oil, cleaning valves, breaking valves, taking out cranks, worn out clutches after a season.
The sled is definitly colder. It doesnt have the same protection as the rmk. The thumb and handwarmers are not even close to the rmk. 06 apex bars and warmers or aftermarket stuff fix that up in a hurry though.
After buying the nytro the amount of money you can spend on it is just stupid. But when the money is spent you have a incredible machine in the end that will run great for years.
Raced and ridden polaris since the mid eighties, would I trade back, don't think so. The Nytro is VERY addicting.

I had a slp single pipe, v-force 3's, slp hi-flow air horn kit, drop in fuel catalyts, powermadd boost bottle, everything else was stock. It was my first hi performance snowmobile. Always put a big grin on my face when riding, I thought the motor was strong as hell, used to out pull a rmk 755cc newer rmk 700 out of the hole until top end.
