Just finished installing mountain skis on my Attak, but instead of buying the spacers that go on either side of the spindle for the mountain skis, I removed the bushings for the bolt that holds the ski on from the stock skis. I then cut down one bushing from each ski, and used one stock bushing and one that I cut and used them as spacers. By placing the spacers either on the outside of the spindle, or on the inside, I can vary the ski stance from 39.5" to 43.5". Basically the same thing Blade does and someone else I think. Took it for a test ride at 43.5" and had much less ski lift. Should have thought to take a picture before I put it away. Maybe tomorrow if someone really wants to see it instead of reading this long winded post! ;)!

mtn skiis

I would be interested ! I just put mtn skiis on my Attak and haven't even put one mile on the sled yet . still need to set up suspension for my weight too. How did you cut the old bushing ? It looks hardened to me ? :4STroke:

Hey BlueBlood, I did the same thing, but I cut both bushings by about 1/8th of an inch. I haven't re-assembled the thing yet, as the bolts weren't long enough so I had to order the mountain ski bolts which haven't come in yet.

I had just planned on using one of the bushings (now spacers) on each side of the spindle...but I wonder if it would be structurally safe to put both spacers on the inside (pushing the ski out). It might be TOO wide?

Anybody know what the advantages/disadvantages of wide & narrow ski stance is? Common sense tells me the wide stance would be more sure footed in the corners, but is there other benefits or disadvantages?

Ya, picture would be nice to see.

Didn't the ski tilt a little with all the weight on one side?

Also have one of you guys measured the keels on both the stock skis & the mountains to see if there is a difference?

For some reason I was thinking that stock was 41.5", but it's 42.7", so actually about 44.7" is what my stance is right now. The bushings are hardened, I put mine on a lathe, but it could probably be done with a grinder but it wouldn't be as straight or pretty. I hadn't actually measured the keel depth from each ski, but I think I heard the mountain skis have a deeper keel. I didn't notice the skis tilting in from the weight distribution, but I'll look. Actually if they're tilting in I think that it would corner better because the keel and carbide would be biting better. I don't think there should be any structural problems, but I'm going to keep a close eye on it just in case. Only downfalls I think with the wider stance is it'll be harder to get up on one ski, narrow trails (which I don't run) and good luck getting it on a trailer next to another sled. I'll try to post a picture, hopefully it works.

Those spacers cost a whopping 1.50 each from yamaha! ===SRXSRULE===

How did this end up working guys? I was looking at my Attak today and also wondered if I could just move both spacers to the insde of the mountain skis and get alittle more ski stance and hopefully a little more stable.Any problems?
