I have an 08 Vector and sometimes when I come to a stop it takes a minute or two for the idle to come down, is this normal? If I wait or give the choke a blip it will drop to 1500 and stay there. If I restart the sled it will idle at 1500 but when I come to a stop again it will hang up around 2000-2500. It is bugging the hell out of me.

You just need to turn your idle screw down like 1/16 of a turn, it won't take much. I tried to adjust my idle up a bit and mine did the exact same thing that you are describing. One small adjustment on the idle dial solved the problem. It seems like this sled either likes to idle at 1500rpm or 2500rpm, there is no in-between setting.

I turned my idle down already when this first started happening. When I start the sled it will idle fine but when I stop it will hang up. If I shut the sled off and restart it the idle will be fine at 1500. It doesn't make sense to me????

Mine did exactly the same thing, it would hang up when I came to a stop after the engine had completely warmed up. Just turn the idle down a bit more. It will still idle at 1500rpm but it won't hang up at 2500 any longer.

Alright I will try that thanks!

When it takes a few seconds for motor to idle down to it's idle rpm range (mine is 1,400 - 1,500 rpms) means that your carburetors are not quite synchonized.

A good dealer can do a sync job pretty easy.

Hope this helps! ;)!

Do you know if your dealer sync'ed the carbs, or did he just assemble it and sell it to you?

That question needs to be answered.

Sometimes sleds need a little tweaking after they get broke in.

I have my carbs sync'ed every year as a matter of keeping everything in tune.

Just trying to help. ;)!

idle hangup

My 08 ltx did same thing my carb sync was out of adjustment, synced my carbs and adjusted my idle works good now, You would be surprised how many 4 stroke sleds and outboards come from factory with carbs out of sync, I was a yamaha mech for 23 years have my own carb sync gauge, its easy to do.

Thanks, I wasn't giving you a hard time, I was just saying that you'd think a new sled would be spot on from the factory.

Not a problem,

As rough rider said, 4 strokes do come from the factory with the carbs close, but not totally in synchronization.

I have experienced the same problem you are experiencing twice. The first time that it happened was when I had around 1,000 miles on the sled. My dealer's mechanic sync'ed the carbs and the problem was solved. I was not charged for the service.

Hope this helps! ;)!

When my sled was new, I took the airbox off and pulled the carb rack from the intake boot, and verified that all carbs were opening equally. Is this enough of a sanity check to rule out the necessity for a carb sync?

I know why mine idled high during my first ride. I tried to adjust the idle up so it would idle at 1800rpm and perhaps eliminate some of the clutch rattle. Well, that didn't work and it only made my sled idle at 2500rpm when it was completely warmed up and idling down after stopping on the trail.

I just backed the idle adjustment off to where it was probably set at when new, and it now idles fine at 1500rpm.

I've read through the carb sync topics, but I still don't really think I understand what is involved in syncing the carbs. I would rather do it myself, since my dealer is like 3 hours away.

Does anyone have a pictoral on carb syncing? Something with pictures to accomodate the instructions?

Hey radianguy (Aka Sled Freak) this is quite normal on RS motors. Mine usually comes back to normal after a few seconds. If you sync your carbs let me know if it fixes your problem. See you on the trails.
