Hi everyone. I'm brand new to the four stroke, but have always owned Yamaha. I bought a new 2011 Nytro XTX from my dealer for $9,900. 144" length did extremely well for me on my previous mtn. Viper, so I went with the same length on the XTX. The dealer put the 1.75" Backcountry track on it and geared down one tooth on top. I do 95% offtrail riding, so I put Simmons Gen I skiis on and removed the sway bar completely (way better floatation, night and day better handling). Completely removed all the tunnel protectors after the first ride when my sled gained 50# in ice and really haven't had a problem with ice buildup since. Changed my rollers to 14.5mm with a BPB spring (awesome setup for moderate powder riding and you lose alot of your engine braking, which is a good thing IMO in three feet of snow). 3100 rpm smooth engagement and I can thread the trees at low speeds now without the clutch going in and out. The rest of the sled is stock. I'm really happy with my setup and the Nytro as it does most things a little better than my Viper did. I really love the lack of smell after riding. Thank you to all for the threads that I've read that helped tremendously in my decisions for upgrading my sled.
The question a have is to those of you running Backcountry tracks. Two out of every three clips have four oval holes in them which pack full of ice after a couple of miles of riding. My track pushes away from the hyfax and my idler wheels never contact the track the rest of the trip. It sure promotes bearing life, wheels never spin. My hyfaxs haven't worn at all in a hundred miles. So I'm wondering if I can just take all four off of rails and put on the ice scratches in case I ever need them. Has anyone else done this and had no problems? Would like to save weight where possible.

I don't run any wheels on my sleds. Last year was the first year I have had to replace hyfax's. But that was due to our low snow year. As long as your in snow you don't need them. I have never ran scratchers either but it wouldn't hurt.
