I sold my 06 rev and going back to yami again. So I came across an 08 nytro 40th anniversary with ohlins shocks, yamaha large tank bag, soft hand covers and some other extras with 2,300 miles on it with a warranty till 12/2010.
the guy was asking 6400 we met at 5900 cash.. good deal or no?

what do you mean dangerous sled to drive? should I stay away? I dont want to make a 5900.00 mistake..
Any help appreciated as I'm totally new to anything over year 2003 for a yami. I kept my 01 yami sled and still have it but went to skidoo and never looked back till now.

08 very nervous fast reacting steering, too agressive for some. Bent subframes, small gas tank, cold ride, etc............

08 problems are all fixable IF you ever have any of the issues. That is a good deal.
Points in this thread:
1. Weak subframe on 08's. This was improved for 09's but 09's still had issues. It seems that big hits are not the issue with the bends but rather off camber hits and carbide vs trailer or rail way incidents. IF you ever have this issue (my 08 with 3500 km doesn't) you can replace it with 09 or after market parts. You say it is still under warranty and some people have had luck getting this part replaced under warranty.
2. Hyfax wear. No better on 09's from what I read. XTX have a better approach angle and less wear but with an extra set of wheels and skid adjustments hyfax wear has not been an issue on my 08.
3. Small gas tank. No bigger on 09 or 10. Trail Tank fixes this. For many people it isn't an issue anyways. Trail riding this sled gets good mileage. Off trail/powder it drinks it like the rest.
4. Cold ride. Again, no different on subsequent years.
5. Dangerous to ride. Mine was bad out of the box. No denying it. Flipped the ski rubbers, changed the carbides, adjusted the skid for more ski pressure, problems solved. It still is aggressive. The difference between the 08 & 09 in this department boils down to machining 2.5mm off the upper ball joints shoulders where they fit into the upper A arm. I haven't bothered with this as I like the handling. The Ohlins can only make the sled better as well.

thanks for the detailed post!!!
so the sled has 2,300 miles on it with the ohlins and it has dually carbides so I'm assuming the owner may have done alot of the changes you stated, I'll have to find out..
I'm not interested in buying a death trap, I loved my rev. Best damn sled I ever rode, no matter how much I like yamis that cant be denied. I just got sick of the cheapo gauges, gas guage that never worked, and all the cheap little issues that never ended.
Am I fixing myself for a terrible ride here with this 08 nytro?
I also found an 06 nytro with 2,000 miles for 4300.00 even closer to me. Totally different chassis I know but any input on that sled would be helpful also.

They made some MAJOR upgrades on that sled to everything except the motor. Can you get your REV back?
Just kidding it sounds like a good price but you should look for one newer IMO.

ok, guys thanks for all the help! I see the 4stroke side is just as good as the 2stroke side on Ty!
I'm not financially ready to pay enough to look into the newer ones just yet so I may pass for now.
I also found an 06 nytro locally for 4300 obo with 2,300 miles or so. I know a completely different sled from an 08+ but anyone have any input there? I'm sure I could get it for 4000 which would be great on my wallet.

Spicers at Houghton Lake MI had an 08 for $4,300 this past weekend. Real clean sled too. They are a Doo, Polaris Cat dealer which might be the reason for the low price.

$4,300 and $4,900 seem like 'really' good deals/prices even for 08's. How much would it be to update from the 08 front end to the 09?
BTW Mighty, have you seen any good deals on any 09 XTX's new or used?
