:ORC Have some students working helping elders in the community with mechanical problems. One has brought in a 98 grizzly 600, stating that it has poor power and burns oil. Checked the plug looks to be the near perfect cardboard colour and compression cold is about 103. If it was a Bravo would be good to keep going for awhile. Will check it warm today and also add a little oil to see if rings seal better. What should the compression be for fair performance. Noticed while checking threads that there is talk about many using oil, if not burning oil anything that should be checked for oil loss? Thanks Cam

normals is 120lb+ on compression. it might have stuck rings from carbon build-up. the valve seals/gides might be getting bad as well. i do not have the spec for them but it should be the same as any other yamaha 4 stroke.

for the carbon build up, i would try some ring free/seafoam/combustion chamber cleaner. any of the mentioned will help free up stuck rings and remove valve deposits if applied through the intake.
