Greetings!

I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My wife and I just bought a pair of 08 Phazer MTXs in excellent condition (one with 400 miles, the other 600). These are our first snowmobiles (we rented a pair last winter).

Last weekend I finished an oil and filter change (I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that the Yammy engineers could have put the filter in a better place). Outside of having to puncture the filter with a screwdriver to get enough leverage to twist it off (Yamaha must employee gorillas on the assembly line), it wasn't too bad. All up, it probably took me 4 hours for both sleds. The second sled went much more quickly, as you can imagine.

Anyway, I'm new here and have spent a few weeks lurking and learning (e.g. how to get to the filter). I'm glad this community exists!

Now we just need some snow!

PS - I'm looking for a (tubular) windshield bracket and (medium) windshield for one of the 08 Phazers - only one of the pair has one.

Snowmobile expo is this saturday in puyallup. I'm sure you can find what your looking for there. I have a large one off an 07 if your interested.

This weekend? Wow, glad you mentioned that; I would have missed it.

Do you have the support bracket too? If so, I'm definitely interested, and we can work out the details offline (PM).

next time put a big hose clamp around the filter - tighten it real tight and then use a long screwdriver to push on it and that will get it off without puncturing it.

Thanks for the feedback, gents. That's a very good idea.

It shouldn't be a problem for me next time. I repalced them with K&N filters, which have a hex head welded to them to make exactly this task much easier.

Thanks again.

Or replace the Yamaha filter with a K&N model which has the hex on the end. You don't have to spend all that time taking the front sub-frame off, which means more riding time!

when you pull the subframe, correct me if i'm wrong, but you have to disconnect the oil tank line and the antifreeze line to the radiator? it's been a while since i wrecked one, but that's what i remember.

You do have to disconnect the oil tank line, but not the antifreeze. Just unscrew the radiator and you can move it out of the way.

'shield support brackets on Ebay

Thanks! I got what I needed at a local swap meet last weekend for a reasonable price. I'd been cruising ebay for quite a while, and hadn't found any.

Ha, we must've been typing at the same time while I edited.....

Glad you got it-

I picked up a brand new take off front bumper from a meet for $5, can't pass up cheap parts that could just sit on a shelf for ever or might be needed sometime.
