is the APEX really 150hp's???

Power is always measured at the clutch shaft. It is the same HP as at the crank (150) the gear reduction acts as a torque multiplier, it does not affect the HP.

Good trick. You have found a gear reduction that is 100% efficient.

You will find the crankshaft horsepower higher than the clutch output shaft.
Probably 3 to 4 horsepower.

There was a dyno sheet around with and without the gear reduction..back in 03 when the RX was first released and they were almost identical (except for the torque). That gear reduction DOES NOT rob much power...maybe our definition of "considerably higher" is different.

And..the 185hp R1 is a completely different engine then the RX/Apex motors. It's smaller lighter and uses Ram Air to get the 185. The newest iteration is also, as mentioned, a four valve.

so the nytro will be faster than the apex then because it will rev faster i still don't get how the nytro is 1050cc and apex is 998cc but the nytro is only 130 hp and apex is 150hp so how close will these two sled be :yam:

It's all in the state of tune and the engine's design. The Apex engine is designed to be more powerful which is in part accomplished by revving it higher. The nytro motor does not rev quicker...will it be faster..no. It may be quicker depending on weight, clutching and gearing but we won't really know until we get them down the track. Given equal states of tune 20hp is hard to make up unless it's REALLY light.

The Nytro revs at about 8600, actually 134HP

Apex 998cc 10,500RPM =149 HP

R1 bike motor = 185HP but it revs to 12,500

HP is a function of breathing, spin a motor faster and it will generate more HP. (obviously the intake, head and exhaust have to have the flow capabilities)

This formula will get you close to the ball park on HP

15 HP per liter of displacement per 1000 RPM

example Nytro
15 X 1.052 x 8.6 = 135HP
Apex
15x.998 x 10.5=156
R1 bike
15x.998 x 12.5=187
