I ordered an aftermarket bearing for the jackshaft secondary side from royal distributing, part number is 04-620650, it is a KML bearing. I installed the bearing but the taper collar does not seat in far enough and it appears the inner race is not quite large enough.

I removed the bearing and tested how far the collar slid in and it seems it does not go in as far as the old oem bearing I removed.

Has anyone else used this bearing with success? I just want to verify before dropping over $50 for the oem one, thanks.

i assume its a 06-09 apex, if it is i looked at this last year cause im doin my drive, jack and chaincase bearings in the fall and what i come up with was for the jackshaft secondary side u need the oem, i looked around also cause of the price of oem but coulnt find the proper one, if it was 2010 or newer all balls has em

Thanks for the reply, I didn't realize the newer apex used a different bearing. The part listing said it would work with the 06 to 10 apex. I guess that was a waste of money, oh well, I will pick up the oem bearing.

Sorry.....not an answer to your question, but rather a question:

What mileage are you at, to be replacing the jack shaft bearing? Was there any specific issues you noticed?

I understand riding conditions play a role on bearing life.....but what is the target mileage for bearing replacement?

Oem is the way to go for the driveline bearings imo. Why dick around to save a few bucks? Its cheap insurance and you know the oem will fit and perform as it should. There are a/f market that fit and perform just as well as oem but it can be hit and miss.

When to change the bearings?? That depends on what type of maintenance you do. Keeping these bearings clean and full of good grease will allow them to last a very long time. I pop the seal and grease the speedo and jackshaft at least once a season. I replaced all my driveline bearings at just over 10,000 miles just because. I also changed the track and driveshaft at the same time. Shafts are known to start going bad at 10k and my track was tired with a couple of studs that had pulled thru leaving a few holes here and there. I like to service my sled as more preventive than reactive. This helps ensure that I can enjoy the short riding season riding the sled instead of wrenching on the sled

The sled has about 21,000 km and the bearings are original, they were still working fine though.

that's about 13000 miles I would be looking at changing them this year or next if I was you. I know there are people with more miles than that on the originals but 15000 miles or about 25000 km would be my limit. and like Steiner I pop the seals and grease every year if I didn't do that I would be changing the driveshaft every other year and jack shaft every 3-4 years.

I picked up the OEM bearing and it had a larger ID to accept the collar, got it all put back together and looks good. Can't believe these aftermarket companies provide replacements that don't work

Yes that's definitely the easiest way, it sucks to take off the chaincase but there is not really a way around it.
