I have an 03 RX-1 LE that I bought used a couple years ago with 6k miles on it. The previous owner road the sled hard. He put a brand new studded track on it with the new original shock (had an Ohlins shock on there that he removed). The sled now has 8,700 miles on it and I broke down this past weekend will riding in the Tug Hill area. It was like the sled was kicking out of gear (the sled has reverse). I brought it to the local dealer and they adjusted the reverse linkage, but it was still making noise and not acting right. They pulled the chaincase cover and said the jackshaft bearing went. The jackshaft bearing on the PTO side looks fine, so the previous owner had to have replaced that right? I'm not sure if I should have them replace the PTO side jackshaft and drive bearings right now. I'm not handy enough to drop the skid and replace the drive bearing myself. From all the talk over replacing the jackshaft and drive bearings on the RX-1's I figure it had to had been replaced by the previous owner? what do you guys think? -chuck

The 03 had an updated bearing on the clutch side so if it has a lock nut on the backside of the bearing then it is updated.

Thanks! As soon as I get the sled back, I'll check that!

Although the bearing was updated in 04, you can still change bearing and not add the updated collar.
To answer your question, if I were you I'd have them change jackshaft bearing pto side while they are there. A lot easier to do once the chaincase is all apart, and since they are there already, won't cost that much extra. Actually I put 2 new bearings in chaincase, not just the top. Again, while you are there. My 2 cents!!

correct but IF it does have the updated collar then it IS possibly updated. that was my point.
If it dosent have the updated collar then IT should be updated.
