I lost a right rear wheel tuesday night out riding. I took them apart and replaced all rear wheels and added 4 th wheel kit. My question is does the big upper wheels go bad and has anyone experience with this.

the big upper wheels seem to last much longer. they dont carry the weight of the sled and also dont ride down in the dirt or water like the rest do.

The upper bearings do go bad. 8500 miles and my bearings were toast. My rear wheels are all fine at that mileage

Its bizard how the rear axle ones seem to last forever and what I find even weirder is that their smaller bearings "6004"

Wow
Wow, this exact thing happened to my 06 RTX on Monday in the UP. I just ordered the 4th wheel kit and 2 new outer wheels. I didn't notice it until I went up over a plowed road and heard an odd noise. I got off and looked and I was missing the right rear (the side with the single). Running 144 studs. I was lucky I didn't derail the track. It was a slow ride from Rudyard to St. Ignace on perfect trails!!! Even my wife was POed we couldn't go fast! I must have come down hard on the rear cause I also broke the right tension bolt. Track appears to be ok. I'll snap a pic of it tomorrow.

tpayner19 - You're lucky that bolt broke. In another thread someone posted that bolt ripped their track when they lost the wheel you did. 4th wheel is a MUST.
FYI-- Save some $'s. You dont need to order the 4th wheel "kit." All you have to do is buy the xtra wheel and cut the silver tube down (shorter) to match the double wheel side. When you take the wheels and shaft out and you'll see what I mean.

back right wheel famous for flyin off,all that pressure on that 1 wheel because there is no other wheel next to it to help with the pressure,4th wheel kit will do it!

I ordered the 4th wheel kit, 2 new outer wheels, a new outer spacer, tension bolt, washer and nut for $100. The best place I have found for cheap new parts is www.boats.net. All I needed is the part number and they beat any price I have found on the internet. Season is over for this year with just over 1500 miles. Love the RTX and just need to get everything right on it after buying it used.
