I acquired an M7 skid and noticed the cross-over tube that holds the bottom of the front shock is worn with holes in the outer sleeve. I suspect it is the track nubs rubbing on it. (the skid is not installed yet, I have never tried it)

I did a search where trxster and maybe others did the front shock re-locate.

I have the 07 rails with an older model M7 components. The front idler wheels (the things that holds them) aren't compatible with the rails.

What do I need to do?

Where do I re-locate the shock? There is a hole directly above the stock hole, but that is where the idler wheel holder is supposed to go. I need the wheels because I don't ride in powder like you guys. No powder at all this year.

I can see this causing an ongoing vibration problem if it's left in the same position. Any ideas?

I have seen this before. In fact this past weekend Jonnyrocket showed me his cross over tube and it has the worn areas (clear through the outer tube) you describe.

He mounted his higher and further back (above the center rib) on the rails and it's not rubbing anymore.
His skid is a 1M skid.

Mine is a M7 skid and I haven't had this problem so far.

Yes, Just take the cross over bar the shock is mounted to and relocate it back and up. I did have to tighted the pre-load of the shock so it wouldn't bottom out. No issues so far.

Pete,
I installed the (2) smaller idlers (2" diameter?) in-between the slide rails just in front of the shock mount to help keep the track from rubbing. I didn't run the front idlers, I mounted the scratchers there instead. I thought it was an RX-1 installation issue, but I just re-did the suspension for a friend that has an M7 and he had the same rubbing - in fact I had to replace the sleeves. Haven't checked them since but I'm sure there is still some contact.

Johnny,

What about your idler wheel and wheel holder, did you just get rid of it?

Doo,

I was going to use those wheels as anti-stabbers. I have stabbed two tracks in my career and the one incident almost killed me!

I am a little bit freaked out by the "potential" stab with the M7.

I was worried too somewhat, it wasn't a serious concern to me though as I didn't have a fully clipped track (stock rx-1m track). I think with the 3 pitch it would be an issue!

I kept it on. I just happen to have an extra long bolt that I used to keep the idler wheels in place. I did this 2nd to having some wear issues on the hyfax.

Frosty,

You have no rub at all? My skid is the M7 also. Do you have much room between your lugs and the cross-over tube?

I won't know until I try it I guess. I am having issues because I am using 07 rails and the holes are in different locations.

If you are getting rub on the crossover tube, I would check the hyfaxes. Bet they are worn?

Good point Aaron. The ones I have on have lots of meat left on them.

How is that M7 running? I thought you were a Cat man deep down because I saw what looked like a Prowler (in the background) in one of your pics!
