I went for my first ride of the season today on my stage 2 apex mountain and I could not get my machine to pull over 9 lbs and 9500 rpm. I wound up my waste gate rod 2.5 turns and cranked my boost controller. It helped but still couldn't get to where I need to be at altitude. Once I started heading down the mountaian it was right on the money. Should I wind up my wastegate rod more or do I have another issue I should be watching for? Does the spring in the wastegate get tired and need to be replaced?

Before you crank the waste gate right down give it a leak down test sounds like you might be leaking some where on your charge tube

I had my charge tube under the tunnel wore through where it goes through the bulkhead.......or distorted header pipes......leaking exhaust......

I don't know about the apex but on the rx1 of mine it will act like that if I'm jetted too rich, as it comes down in elevation it leans out and runs stronger. I would think that if the charge tube is leaking it would do at the lower elevation too.

Sounds like it could be either air or exhaust leak. I had lots of those problems.

If you take your air filter off and get a small pressure regulator with a gauge you can pressurize your intake system and actually see your wastegate operate, listen for leaks on your intake side and get a close pre-adjust done on your boost controller while checking your boost gauge. If you have a leak down tester you will have all the gear it will just have to be modified.

I had a similar issue last year. Couldn't get past 5-6 #'s. Pressurized the system and found a large crack in the intercooler. So, as mentioned before, pressurize the system and check for leaks.

Went up again today after winding my wastegate another turn and a half. Ran great all the way up and started to lose some power as I got up to altitude. Was hitting revs but not nearly as responsive as normal and took a long time to spool up. can hear some minor exhaust noise when I fired it up cold this morning but went away once it got warm. seemed to get worse as the day progressed and once again woke right up on the trail down. What is the best way to inspect the exhaust? had my charge tube in the tunnel welded and fixed last year where it was rubbing the bulkhead.

You can search for posts by HLMRX1 or Turbo Jamie for some good advice on pressurizing your intake to find leaks. For the exhaust, the best thing really is a visual inspection. Flex joints would be the first place to look, but all unions should be considered suspect until your assessment proves otherwise.

I pressurized up my exhaust through rear pipe to 5 lbs. and found leaks on header pipes and connection. easier to see if you remove suspension.

Time to get dirty.
