I have a MCX 190 turbo on my Viper MTX 162.

I was just in Togwotee and my RPM never went over 7200 rpm. I thought my clutching was off since it was my first ride to test this machine out. I get home to 1000 feet elevation and i have all my rpm that i should. RPM is hitting 8700. I do get a backfire as well now that I am home at the higher RPM.

Anyone know why my elevation compensation is not working and why I all of a sudden get this backfire at higher rpm?

You might do well to post this in the Turbo section

could be ice in the vakumclock on the wastegate.we drill a 3mm hole on the bottom and problem solved ;-)

Could be a couple things......... can you confirm the TCV is operating correctly? If you put 5-10 lbs of pressure on the MCX EFI box Unit while it is idling, you should get a flickering sound from the TCV.

I had a similar issue, but the other way so to speak. I had to adjust my wastegate rod to get the TCV to actually blow off the wastegate. I went out like 10 turns or something crazy. Maybe your rod is too long to start and it is blowing off way early, although that might not explain the clutching part? You would think if it was able to get WOT you would get higher RPMS than that.......

You can buy a mityvac from a local auto parts store. Some only do vacuum, you need one that can add pressure as well. Basically fake it out to think it is higher elevation. A good place to start. Think the tool cost me under $75.
