Since theres more people on the apex forum i though id ask if anyone has experienced or seen this.

My friend bought a used 06 Nytro. He has owned Ski-Doos all his life. Our first trip this winter was Saturday. All was great, nice trails. at 40 miles we stopped at a camp, he noticed a small but unsual ticking sound, barerly noticeable. The motor was smooth and quiet before. One mile later at a junction on the trail while idling his headlight blinked, then the motor stopped. We removed his belt to tow the sled. Then i tried turning clutch by hand to see if the motor was seized. I could only turn the clutch one way, when i tried to turn the other direction i couldnt for the life of me turn a single millimeter. He s bringing his sled today to dealer.

Just curious what anyone thinks. Im hoping (wishing) its a faulty starter thats locked , since the motor turns only one way. Not likely though since motor was running. Its hard to imagine a four stroke yammy motor going down like that, the sled is mint with only 1200 miles or so.

But i guess its just an engine, anything can happen

Yes that is unusual so they tell me but coming from a guy that blew 1 last yr and 1 the year before my heart goes out to him. Last yrs motor cost me almost $6K to buy and have built and the original motor had about 9 k on it and was stock. Both were the big 4 cylinders with reduction gears and are difficult to turn by hand before blown up. Both broke connecting rods just above below the wrist pins.

I have never heard of the 3 cylinder motor going down. If you can turn it one way its not siezed, pull the plugs and insert a stick into each cylinder onto the piston and turn it. If the stick doesn't move Uh-Oh. :drink:

Yellowknife on the board has a buddy that has blown an older Nytro twice. Lets hope this is not the case.

When they do blow its not like you would think. The 2nd one let go at about 60mph the exhaust note dropped for a second and that was all you hear. Unfortunately when they let go depending on the R's your pulling the piston bounces off the bottom and then hits the head. Only good parts are the valve cover and pan. I got 2 blocks with grapefruit size holes, damaged heads and cranks that wouldn't work in a Vespa.

I do have 2 spare starters, 1 carb rack and fuel injection rack. Plenty of spar parts for my other sleds Yeah! :o| :o|

Dealer just confirmed that the starter was the problem. Everything is being replaced at there cost.
I should have waited before asking questions on this site. Rumors spread way too quickly on internet. Im glad its nt major though. We might have another blue member

Yamadog, I just had a 4 cylinder motor break a rod after the first mile ride this year also. Broke the rod just below the wrist pin and the other part of the rod jammed 3/4" up the cylinder wall from the bottom.. Its kind of a fun ruiner for the season..

I was putting my sled on the trailer last weekend and I thought I heard something strange. Turns out the ignition key was sticking part way in the start position. The starter was staying engaged. I sprayed some wd-40 in the key hole and it seemed to free it up. I'm going to order a new switch just to be on the safe side. I would never had heard it if there was another sled running next to me. Take a close look at it, make sure it's returning all the way to the run position after you start it. They probably won't cover it twice.

Boy sorry to hear that, you don't hear much of them but I lunched 2 in a year. I change oil every 1500 to 2000 miles and filters 2 times a year.

1st one was oil pump no idea on the 2nd.

nb-attak,

I am just curious if the repair was covered under YES or was it a "good will" repair?
