I see few people, at least posting it on this site, installing the MPI under tunnel coolers.. I reckon its a good way of moving the CoG further down to help reduce the tippyness of the Nytro. However, you will at the same time move it backwards.

Is it necessary to have a lighter skid to compencate for the shift in CoG by installing these coolers and eliminate the stock radiator and fan??

Also thinking that when putting lighter skid and front end it will actually move the CoG even furter up if not deleting the rad, or doing any other mod to remove or move weight high up?

Any reason this isnt a more popular mod?? Any thoughts?

MPI tunnel coolers

I did it on my 08 MTX because of heating and ice issues.
Did that 2 seasons ago. Removed the rad. at the same time.

3 seasons ago I installed a KMOD Gen I suspension, which really lightened the suspension. It also felt like I had more working travel and made the handling better in the rough.

Both of these mods didn't help in handling and the feeling of being high centered. I couldn't just "flick" the front end over without using a lot of body weight.

This past season I rode with the Concept front suspension, which I feel lowered the CoG and greatly improved the CONTROL without feeling like I was fighting the weight issues any more.

Since I ride about 80 -90% of the time standing, I noticed I can use more technique and less weight and don't feel like I have to throw my body to get the sled to respond, I can do it with where I'm standing on the running boards and with the handle bars and skis.

I would say for me, that the Concept suspension did the most for me to take out that 'tippyness'. I don't even think about it this past season and have been taking lines this post season, I wouldn't even considered the seasons before.

This is coming from someone who broke his rib on the 3rd ride after buying the sled in 08. PM me if you have more specific questions- Sledboy04

Thanks a lot Sledboy.

Looks like the SPG Concept front end is the solution to most issues with the Nytro... Too bad it's so expensive, but should probably start saving for one :o|

So the under tunnel coolers are really just to help cooling and (hopefully?) remove the icing problem at the back?

I'm just wondering whether one can do the under tunnel coolers without going for a lighter skid, or will it put too much weight at the back?

Don't be asking the MPI tunnel cooler to do something it's not. It's for better cooling, period. The amount of weight that it adds or changes it's COG is negligible and you won't notice it. It would be like moving your butt a 1/4 inch back on the seat.

I'm not asking, I was wondering ;)!
Which is also good to hear, because I can, if I decide to, do the under tunnel coolers without having to think of a lighter skid at the same time

I would think that the amount of weight saved by reduction of ice would far out weight the additional weight of the aluminum extrusions. Keep In mind that there really is only a small portion that would be "behind" the rider. So as Gimm said scoot forward a quarter inch and it effect is zero.

I found that having the MPI cooler helped with reducing the icing, it still builds up at the very back, but not like it did before, around the exhaust muffler and all they back.
I couldn't really notice any improvement in the handling, but it really helped with the heat build up over the engine. Before I could dry out my gloves pretty quickly by placing them in front to the steering post, now it just keeps them warm.
If you want to improve the handling and change the tippyness- go for the Concept Suspension. It will make you think your riding a different machine. Tusen Takk- Sledboy04

Thanks guys. Valuable input ;)! That's why I love this site
