I believe they are better on and off trail then the stock skis, I have 6 inch carbides on mine.

I love the MTX skis on my xtx. They trail really good and work awesome in soft snow. The actually corner on trail in the soft stuff when my buddies are pushing through the corners. I find the least amount of carbide the better though. I put 5" on mine and brought back the sleds tippyness in the corners. Was just running a round bar before and it worked great except for ice.

If you can't find any MTX skis for sale, a relatively cheap alternative are RMK Gripper skis. I think they handle a little better on the trail than the MTX skis and they're 4 lbs lighter too. Aside from modifying the rubber they pretty much bolt right up.

X2. I put gripper skis on my XTX, and I'm loving them. Definitely alot better off trail.
I'm not sure what mod you did to the rubber, but to mount mine I had to buy the bolts for an MTX ski, and drill out bushings on teh skis so the metric bolt would fit.
I was really surprised at how cheap the Grippers are.
