Finally got machine out today for a 120km trip. While taking it off truck deck machine came to a dead stop, just as it dropped onto ramp. Odd, me thinks, so I have a look see. Somehow, don't know how, both skis dropped in the 3" gap between ramp and beavertail, bringing up on the spindles. Joyous since I'm by myself, getting that 700lb machine outta there while its at a 45 degree angle. Ended up taking skis off, one at a time and re-installing. 1/2 hr later ready to go. Terrible vibration in machine. Check out the 4th wheel and marginal snow kit I put on... not there. Check the drive belt and its toast, probably from ramp when trying to go forward, which didn't work. Put on park brake, change belt and off I go, again. Damn, this thing is a dog but no vibration. About 2 kms later I notice something hitting my left hand. Park brake lever. Jees... silly Bob.
Machine has Simmons skis... doesn't answer like my MXZ X's would. Thinking of tightening up limiter strap, right now 2 holes showing in strap. Handlebar warmers work, kept my palms toasty but fingers cold. I cann't wrap my hands fully around the grips. They must be smaller diameter than what I'm used too. Still trucking along on the trail(exploration road just pushed thru with about 1-2cm snow on top of HARD pack) and decide to try this puppy out. Not sure if its the 162 studs but it is quick and seems it can be fast, went up to 170 in a hurry and figured enough that. At which time I discovered the phenomen of 'engine braking'... interesting. Those engines are smooth. Very nice.
About 1/2 way around the 'triangle' I was taking noticed an amber light on the dash... check engine. Great... then noticed speedo not working. Couple seconds later speedo starts registering and light goes away... doesn't happen again. Get back to pick-up where, for first time I put on the cover, with factory rack. Another learning experience. Then go to gas bar.. machine takes 19.1 liters. Very good I think.
To sum it up. It doesn't handle like the MX's. Engine much smoother. Very nice ride. Decent fuel milage. For my style of riding now... its the machine for me, as long as it doesn't get caught in beavertail again! HA!!!

Congrats on the new YAM...something thats kind of bothering me is your SPEEDO that stopped working I'd be a little concern of the speeo BEARING check it out...when speedo starts to play free games its usualy a sign of speedo BEARING failure...their prone to pre-mature failure I change mine every year...

Your overheat lite probably came on; briefly shutting the machine down.

Not sure what scoop was with speedo. Checked wiring under clutch and all seemed fine. I will bring to dealer to have looked at. When it happened machine ran fine, rpms still there and throttle response. Figure light came on once computer getting signal from TPS but no speedo input to corelate against.
I like the machine. Very nice, smooth power. Just have to get used to the machine characteristics. Handle bars are a bit un-nerving as I cann't get a good grip on them. They sure seem smaller diameter than what I'm used too.

You may want to check the speedo sensor as well. Make sure that it is clean and free from debris, dirt and grease.

Probably a debris from your belt that gave up!
