i put on new belt that came with sled from yamaha when i bought sled now belt noise is bad squeal at idle does belt just need to break in or what i cleaned both pulleys with brake parts cleaner and scotch brite pad noise still there . ?

i rode it hard around about i hour but not over 50 mph. i just beat it up on 2 inches of snow in new hampshire i just needed my sled fix we need SNOW!!! noise still there its driving me nuts

your belt could be riding too high on the secondary, and the noise is from the center shaft of the primary rubbing. to adjust, remove secondary, on the back are 3 bolts with washers, remove 1 washer from each bolt and reinstall bolts. this will open secondary slightly, and allow more slack to stop squeal.

Run it in. With a new belt there is a squeel from just a slight amount of tension that is due to a centre to centre distance that is tight. The higher you get the belt to run in the secondary the better your gear ratio and hole shot. 50 miles or so and you will be perfect. Every year I squeel at idle for 200 miles as I break in a couple of belts. The slight variation in belts can also be seen at this time.

Mine did the same thing for the first 15 miles.. Now it's just fine..MM.
