New drive belt

belt

guys i have 3 new belts, 2 00, 1 01, where ever i measure i see 34.60-34.80
0n the oo's, i then do same on 01 belt i see 35.20-35.40. so no matter
what you would think you should have to adjust secondary for squeeling.

Funny thing. My 07 Attak came with the 01 belt. That thing would slip every time I tried to load my trailer. Sometimes, when you stopped in heavy snow, it slipped taking off.

I took it off at about 800 miles to clean the clutches and I laid it on the bench next to my new spare, which happened to be a 00, to see how much wear it had. It was actually about 1/8" wider than the new belt. It made me wonder...

In any event, I put the 01 back on and at about 900 miles it came apart. In fact, it delaminated the top layer or two right off it.

Guess what.... It was now exactly the same width as the new spare 00 belt.

I asked my dealer about that had he said the 00 was the right belt and the 01 superceeded to it.

To make a long and confusing issue shorter... I have run the 00 about 250 miles so far this year and it doesn't slip at all. The sled pulls like a bear and will easily top 100 mph although I don't know if there is any top speed difference or not. It's fast enough for me.

Just thought I'd confuse the issue for everyone.

Happy New Year!

The rubber is also softer. I smoked one on my Nytro already just loading it onto the trailer. :o|

Ive had two guys I trust tell me the rubber is HARDER compound...trying to get more life out of them....but IMO too hard hurts our acceleration, more slippage.

Dan

I read some where the are softer because the original belts were to hard which caused alot of slippage. There are a few guys who have blown them up in the FX Nytro forum.

The wider belt will slip easier as the weights don't untuck and apply pressure to squeeze the belt. With a wider belt you ought to gear down to take advantage of an increased overdrive situation. .020 difference in belt width alone is 4% difference in OD as long as length stays the same. Gearing down will also help get rid of slippage.

My dealer has a bunch of original 00 belts ,so Im gonna stick with what works and has been working for yrs....if they are softer,i dont want the new one as I like my belt life as it is!..
