I replace the stock track on my last sled (a zr) with a ripsaw. I was fairly certain with the new track I had more vibration and track noise. Now with my RTX I hear the harmonics at 35 to 40 mph that everyone talks about, and it is pretty loud. Has anyone who changed to a different track noticed less vibration and/or noise?

I had the same thing on my vector when I went to a 6pitch track the noise and vibration got eliminated.

That is what I figured. What track did you put on and how is it performing for you (under different conditions)

Sorry to ask a silly question, but could somebody explain the pitch of a track to me? I have the same 30-40mph noise, and it drives me nuts!

I was wondering if it has anything to do with the drivers, or the hole spacing,or...? I always thought most tracks of the same width and length were generally interchangeable.
I wonder if cutting the windows out would help the noise. Can you put clips on yourself, or do you have to order a full clipped track? I've always thought that having more clips would spread the load on the hyfax out, and cause less wear as well.

Yer not entirely wrong...but that's a different pitch you're referring to.

Most tracks these days are a 2.52 pitch...and that's definitey a spacing thing with how it meets the drive sprockets. There's all kinds of different pitches you can buy, but if you want to change THAT pitch, you have to change drivers on the front axle or they won't mate with the cogs and/or windows of the track properly.

But that has nothing to do with a '6 pitch' track lug pattern.

As for your cutting windows question: Some leave it clipped every third and leave the closed windows in place (stock on many tracks), some have it clipped every third and put SLP pads in the closed windows, some cut the windows out and leave it clipped every third (stock on a few tracks), some cut the windows out and add the extra clips to every cog making it "fully clipped" (stock on many tracks). Everyone has their own opinions on how these different configurations impact hyfax wear and speed, and that debate will never end....

You can add or remove clips to/from any track with the right tools (or even with the wrong tools!), and many here do such things themselves all the time.

I'll add that the Ripsaw is pretty well known as a fairly noisy track. I've had the same nose/vibration experience when I put a ripsaw on a 98 Ski-Doo once. And I didn't care for it either. That's one of several reasons I took the Ripsaw off of my new Attak as soon as I took delivery. My 1.5 inch Intense is very quiet, but most with RTX's wouldn't want a 1.5 inch lug track so that doesn't really help the original poster.

I can't help but think that the added vibration of the noise would have to be causing wear, or loss of speed/power. Harmonics of any kind IMO aren't any good. I posted in another thread about wear pads; would this help the noise, or is this coming from the tread side of the track, or both?
