2014 Yamaha Venture Gt
Hi, just installed a new Yamaha V-belt on my 2014 Venture GT, It is new and was wondering why it would engage and spin the track at idle? With the track off the ground. gets up to 5 km and holds there, Any ideas as to why this happens? They also mention in the manual that the belt should stick up slightly over the secondary, and talk about spacers for proper adjustment..Mine sits in the grove level with the top of the secondary. Appreciate any info on this. Thanks! RCR

It's new, verrrrrrry tight.. I bet if you sit the track on the ground or at least hold the brake on it would squeal.. Either wait for a few hundred miles or remove the three small washers on the driven clutch.. MM.

Your owner's manual should explain the height of the belt in the secondary clutch. However, as MadMax said, run your new belt for a hundred miles or so, then check belt height in your secondary after running your track with sled on a jackstand. If belt is 0.5 mm or lower than secondary sheeves, you need to add a washer to each of the back three bolts on the secondary. If higher than 1.5 mm, then you need to remove the washers, or if you have excessive squeal with your new belt. Sounds like your belt is running properly as is, as should spin the track when on a jackstand, and not squeal that much off the jackstand and just idling.

thanks guys, no squeal, i just thought it wasn't right, after reading up on it , everything seems ok. But i have one more rookie question for you......The Centre bolt that holds the secondary on has three washers on it and they seem loose. is this just play for when the clutch spins up? seems odd the bolt is tight but the washers have a little play in them. thanks!
