Hi gang,

I lost a rear boggie wheel the other night and tried to replace it by myself last night. Well after some creative ratchet strap usage and some choice swearing I got everything back in place. Or so I thought. No matter how tight I turn the axel bolt the left side boggie wheel still has play in it left to right. I am sure I have not missed a washer unless there is one that goes on the outside of the wheel before the nut goes on. Also the left side track tensioner is super hard to tighten and does not seem to do anything to the track. I think the tensioner might be miss aligned if that is possible, but I can't figure out how to get the wheel to tighten up. Any thoughts?

05 RX1 short track.

did you remove the axel to do the job?, there are washers that go against the rails on both sides of the rail. sounds like something is missing to cause the slack. tensioners have an angle that points in toward the track holes for adjustment.

Thanks for replying. I got things back together. I ended up pulling the wheel back off and using a new wheel. Not sure if the bearing in the old boggie was just worn and causing the play side to side.

Now I just need to figure out track tension. I think I have it too tight as it seems to slow down a lot faster now when I let off the gas. Could this be due to track tension?

loosen the track untill it ratchets, then tighten enough to stop ratcheting. the stock specs on track tension are too tight.

Actually, ... I have given up on the ole "slightly tigheter than ratchet adjustment." I am convinced you need to bring track tension in or very near spec to preclude uneven wear at various spot. A tighter track seems to more evenly spread wear hyfax. When hyfax is worn evenely, you are not changing it out to eliminate thin spots. Overall, in my view the tighter track allows longer hyfax use. This is not to say to overtighten it. Right now, I am running ~ 1" at 22 #s pull when warm.

I put a 136" no action skid on my 03 shorty, and found the hyfax gone in 8 hundred miles, this was set at factory specs. Now I run it as loose as possiable, just tight enough not to ractcet. This is working wonderfull. Also moved front wheels into the curve more. This mod is in the tech section, and has done its job well. This is right where everyone in installing the small wheels.
