NY Imposes New Snowmobile Laws

A new law establishes a 55-mile per hour snowmobile speed limit on public trails and lands starting in late February.
The law also increases the snowmobile registration fees to $100 for non-snowmobile club members, leaving the current $45 fee for snowmobilers who belong to clubs.
About 80 percent of owners do not belong to snowmobile clubs

Got my renewals in the mail for last years sleds, for this season its $45.
I think if you register after 31 Jan 06 it will be $100 unless you are a member of a club.

The SRRA got passed but does not take effect for 180 days after the Governor signd the bill. The registration fee is $45.00 for this year. If you join a club it will be the same next year. Non-members will pay $100.00 next year.
As side note... This bill limits speed on trails and public lands to 55MPH, this part of the bill can start being enforced as early as late February '06! Watch your speed out there!
BTW Most trails through State Forrest Land have always been and will remain 25MPH. Look for the brown signs with yellow lettering that say "State Forrest Access"
In case of doubt... ANY trail that is mainained by a club (ie. signed and groomed) is subject to the speed limit.
Just incase anyone is thinking that can cut across a unsigned ungroomed field and say it is not part of the trail therefore not suject to the speed limit there is a good chance you will be charged with tresspassing by riding off trail. Information on lakes and resivoirs is a little sketchy because they were never part of any trail system to start with. There is a move going on to move all trails that dead end a lakes to go around the lake.
