Hello everyone,

I have recently purchased my first yamaha! it is a 2008 Fx Nytro. It was stock when I bought it but I have purchased a set of C&A XTX skis for it to solve the pushing through corner issues that this sled has. Anyway I still have to get the mounting kit and mount them up. I have looked at the how to shim your skis sticky on these forums but I am unsure of how to mount them on the sled. In the how to section it shows putting the 1/4" shim on the small side of the rubber which is then mounted towards the front of the sled? (so the tall portion of the rubber is towards the back and and smaller portion with the 1/4" shim is at the front) does this make sense or do I have something backwards here? Do I even need to shim these skis up at all?

thanks for all your help!

with the sled in the air the ski tips should be up a few inches. i normally just ship the back side rubber. I have C&A skies but used my yamaha rubbers with some older rubber pieces as shims to bring the tips up. i used to use alum plate on the bottom and screw them into the rubber so they didnt fall off. its not too high tech but works great for me and costs almost nothing.

Ok thanks so does anyone know if the taller portion of the C&A rubber goes to the back of the sled like the stock rubber does?

Yes it does, don't remember anything about shimming them when i got mine tho

Ok thanks, I installed the Skis and the front of the skis hangs down when the sled is in the air, but when it is on the ground the front of the carbides are just off the ground, Does this seem correct? I decided not to shim the back of the rubber to see how it does first. They look awesome though!

you might want to shim the rear until the tips are pointing up when the skis are in the air. I've read somewhere that you should check the skis when you are sitting on the seat.

when u life the ski off the ground the front of the ski should be 2" above horizontal from the point were it would be perfectly flat. couldnt really find a picture online but u can add plastic under the rear of the rubber by glueing or screwing it on. plastic stock can be found at hardware stores for cheap. prob need 1/4-1/2" worth of shimming. if u dont shim, the skies will nose down when driving and the front wear pads and front carbide wears while the rear barely does. also improves effectivness of carbides so u can go down from like 6" to 4" or whatever.
