so I have my sled stripped down. I changed the oil and the spark plugs. Now I restart the sled and the oil warning light is on. I know there's oil in it. There's no low oil pressure signal. Any ideas why the oil light would be on?

There is a wire connector that you need to unplug off the sensor when you pull the battery tray that you probably missed when you put everything back together. Don't ask how I know that!

So I disconnected a wire under the battery tray?
Electrical connector to dipstick connected? pull dipstick and shake it a bit to make sure oil level sensor switch float is not stuck / sticking.

I took it all back apart. I could not find any loose or non connection. The light is still on. Could have dipstick go bad? I did take the dipstick out when I believe the float is working. Is there an oil pressure sensor that could be bad. And if so where would that be?

Have heard of dipsticks gone bad in the past , on this site.I have not done this before but Maybe you could jumper the electrical connector to the dipstick with a paper clip and see if the light goes out.I believe if the engine looses oil pressure at idle it should shut itself down in 30 seconds, showing a code 30 on the instrument cluster.

So my brother n law came over, he's an expert in electrical stuff. He has narrowed it down to what he believes is the cluster. Is the mileage stored in the cluster or the ECU and the cluster just displays it?

Well, I have a friend who is a Yamaha service tech tell me that he has never seen a gauge pod go bad in a yamaha. He thinks either the dipstick is bad or the oil pressure sensor. More to come. Any other ideas?

it was fine before you took it apart correct? so something didn't go back together correctly. you can run with the dip stick unplugged and it wont throw a code. codes don't stay stuck till reset either a history is stored but as soon as problem is fixed the display goes back to normal. There is a single wire near the oil filter that can easily not be seen it is a signal wire for one of the sensors. it would be to the left of the oil filter and above it when looking at the front of the sled. it may not have been connected when you put it all back together. or it could be dipstick the dip stick makes contact and completes the circuit when oil is low so if you unplug it the light would go off if that was the problem. slim chance something decide to stop working while it was getting an oil change very good chance you missed something on the job. Good luck let us know what you find.

Yup the sled was fine when i changed the oil, filter, and new battery. Will look for the wire near the filter when i get home from work.

So, it is not the dipstick. I brought the dipstick down to my buddy's Apex, and put it in, and no problem, no light. Now the EPS light is on the pod. Any thoughts? I am waiting for the oil pressure sensor to come and will replace that and see what happens. Also, what is wrong with this site, or my computer. The pages on this site load extremely slow, and often defaults back to the main page. It's very annoying.

I was thinking that now with the EPS lite on , maybe a ground ? I think there is a batch you disconnect / unbolt to get the battery box out , it's been a few months since I had them apart , don't remember for sure. Doc

so I just noticed that my clock is not working as well. I had set it for one which was the correct time here and it hasn't moved off one in two days. Could this be the Pod or possibly a still a ground problem.

sounds like you may have the ground block gremlins do a search on ground blocks and locate them in your sled and check them.
