Setting up a Turbo smart dual stage controller. (that I already have)
What is the optimum setting on the waste-gate rod? 6 lbs? 8 lbs?
It seems to me that I was told at one time to not go too low with the rod setting as it may have a tendency to spike more.
Thanks in advance
Tony

ps. Now don't jump all over me about getting a totally electronic controller, there is one in my near future but for now I'm going to give the Dual stage a try since I all ready have it....

pss. I am running a Head Shim..
Will be more than likely setting low boost to around 10 lbs & high boost around 12-13 lbs

Thanks Ted,
So your saying it won't make any difference for efficiency of the wastegate? Won't make any difference for spikes? These are probably silly questions on my part.. It just keeps sticking in my mind that setting the rod too low screwed things up..

Anyway:
If thats the case here is what I'm thinking:
Set the "rod" at 8lbs
Set the low boost to 10
Set the high boost to 12

What Master Ted is saying, in other words is that the boost controller won't let you boost any LOWER then the wastegate's initial setting. Also, setting it 'too low' has nothing to do with spiking.

That doesn't sound good..... Your taking yours off..... Did it not work very well?

nope it didnt work well. i think manual controllers are all just passable. if your fussy like me i want all my boost now and dont like watching it creep until the danger zone. i found you had to lower the boost so low down to 6-8 so it wouldnt creep past 12-14 on long pulls.so for trail riding from corner to corner typically you never get past6-8 pounds. has to be a better system. hopefully this electronic one will give me all the boost i want when i want it.

Your going to find that when you set it for 12 lb. on a short blast it will be higher on a long pull, Manual boost controllers are very inconsistant.

If that is all you want to do is a 4 lb. spread just set the wastegate to 12 lb. and forget it.

Ted.

Ted (and myself) will reccomend a HKS EVC EZ2/EVC5/EVC6 boost controller.
