Ottawa Area and Southern Quebec Riders

This is my first season riding the Ottawa area trails and find groomed trail riding a little boring. I grew up in the Prairies where snowmobiling is much less restrictive, you could pretty much ride anywhere, ditches, fields, powder bowls, tree line drifts etc. I really enjoy the off trail challenge and but find a sign every km saying to stay on the the trails around here so I respect that. Does anyone know if southern Quebec has more relaxed rules, power lines or even some back country to ride in which would within an hour of Ottawa?

If you have any areas to pass on it would be very much appreciated. Although I can ride the trails from my house, it would be worth trailering for a little more freedom.
