just received an issue of atv action magazine.there is an article on the phazer snowmobile and it seems that yamaha is going to drop that motor in a quad, theyre saying that it could power the next gen banshee.500cc with 80 hp and a cvt transmission, super lightweight,i hope its true, this is in the august issue. :rocks:

That makes sense, I was kind of hoping to see it in a quad a little earlier but then again we can pretty much trust Yamaha not to give us something until they're sure it's going to work correctly.
:yam:

That would put Yamaha in the ball park, horsepower wise, with Bombi's 800 twin. I'd love to have that in a griz chassis!

I wouldnt be a fan of it with a CVT tranny. I could see it being designed to compete with the Can-Am Renegade 800.
Its going to be interesting to see how that motor runs in the sled this winter. I have my doubts about it's long-term durability, but we'll see...

they said that the cvt transmission would suit to more riders.some just cant use a clutch.the motor is designed with formula one technology so that's why it revs alot to make its power.80 hp with stock exhaust and electric start, cmon the competition. guess its gonna be in 2008.

Its a 500, Ganz. Its more of less 2 YZ 250F motors put together.
That comment about how some riders just cant use a clutch is BS, in my opinion. If you arent coordianted enough to drive manual transmission, I dont think you have any business on an 80-hp quad. (or really any quad for that matter)
I know that some people just like to put it into gear and not have to worry about shifting, and for them I can see where it makes sense.
Its too bad Yamha couldnt do a tranny like the new FJR 1300s have. Its got an auto-clutch and it shifts the gear electronically (has a little servo on the shifter). You can shift it manual if you want or you can just let it do the shifting for you.

You use the clutch when you shift???

Just Kidding, I use it most of the time....

Allright, some of the time.....

Ok, Ok, you got me, I use it when starting, stopping and most downshifts but I typically just blip the throttle on upshifts.

I don't see how that would compete with the Bomb, it would blow it away! :yam:

Steve, nice pretty green type for your name. ;)!

I'll remember that when you come on here saying that you grenaded your tranny. You can shift without the clutch but if you dont do it just right you can seriously damage your tranny.

Never happen....

Not the wrecking the tranny part, just the part where I actually come on the board and admit that I wrecked it.
:jump:

Basically, I was just validating the decision to go with the CVT instead of a gearbox. I know very few people who always use the clutch when they shift.

Of course, that does say something about my circle of friends doesn't it? :dunno:

Haha...Amen to that.
I always use the clutch when I shift but a few of my friends who dont use the clutch to shift have grenaded their trannys, so thats why.
Whatever time I might lose during shifting I make up in the corners. ;)!
