OK guys I got 10 sets made and wont be able to make anymore for at least a week. I have a couple requested all ready so If you want a pair act quick. They will increase your hand warmer temp a Min of 30* F. I took two Apex's for a test drive (both warmers sucked in past rides) Mine had the new ends on and his remained stock. No other changes were made other then unbolting the stock hooks and bolting on my ends. My grips were 122* when tested and his were 88*. Please PM or E-mail me. o21295@huxcomm.net (thats my paypal address too)

25.00 for the set

Nice work. I came to the same conclusion as you. I removed a hook and took the sled for a ride and the hookless side got nice and toasty the entire length of the grip. Hook side got cool really quick the closer to the hook you got and froze my pinky. Moved the hook to the other side and the now hookless side got toasty why'll the hooked side froze that pinky.

man its gonna suck to ride with out the hook

It's really not that bad...I believe the way you will end up riding this sled negates the need for "hanging out" to make turns...I even removed the extended brake lever because I found it unnecessary...

Kind of like on the Rev, there isn't much need to move out laterally...more of a forward motion in the direction in which you are turning...

I also noticed during my first 125 miles that if the hook is there, you tend to widen your hand position on the handlebars...we'll see soon enough because I would rather ride w/o the hooks than have my fingers freeze like they did last weekend...

Setting on the sled with the hooks off makes you realize how short the hand grips which makes you realize how short the grip elements are. I think more needs to be done then simply inserting plastic end caps. By doing that my pinky would be completely off the element and only about half my ring finger would be getting heat also. The grips and element need to be widened IMHO. But maybe my hands are larger than others :ORC

Big hands, big--------? I agree on the need for a larger heating element to cover entire grip and s/b WARRANTY. Forget anything other than temporary fixes.

Maybe the fix will be as simple as having Yami produce some color matched plastic hooks to replace the aluminum. I love the hooks and definitely was using the left one yesterday. First sled with hooks and I wish I had them on my old sleds.

Anyone try grinding off about 1/8" of the plug portion of the hook and then wrap with electrical tape to build it back up to the right size? might be enough insulation to do the trick. I don't have an APEX to try it on but if you can get as much of the aluminum away from the bar as you can it might give you a few more degree's to work with. ;)!

SRXRULE your plugs are a great option and you are definitely on the right track did'nt mean to downplay your idea in any way! I have no doubt it will be a TY member that finds the best fix for this long before Yamaha gets done with there analysis of the problem.;)!

Been thinking about this one and am going to measure the bars thickness and compare it to Arctic cat's bars if they are the same cat bars have the hook already in them no add-on and longer grips so if you cut the grip off of the Yamaha and ground off the grip on the hook and installed cat's heater tape ( There is enough to do the bar and hook) and use the cat's grip over the heaters...Ta-daah!!!!!! Fixed

What about installing a fairly thick plastic washer
between the hook end and the bar to insulate
it and it will add slightly to the short length of
the grip. I realize it won`t help with the already short heated grip, but it should help to keep
the hook from being a heat sink.

YAMAHA NYLON HOOKS

if the problem with the hand warmers is the hooks, yamaha makes nylon hooks part # sma-8fube-cd-bk (black) the make them in red and blue to.
