Plug Color...how do these look?

Hey there guys...dropped my needles down one clip. My machine has always ran kinda rich. Anyhow, how do these look to those of you who have their machine "finely tuned". There are only 3 because I did'nt take out the plug from cyl #4..coolant bottle...PITA :? Anyhow, what do guys thinks. It's kinda hard to tell from a pic but they were a light brown (almost beige) in color. Personally I think they are a bit LEAN but hey...whatta I know :?:

I took these readings after about a 20 min. run today with varyin speeds up to WOT. The temps were -2 C.

Think Snow!

Ideally you want to take your plug readings at WOT, but what I think you are working on is part throttle.
A 20 minute ride may not be enough to give an accurate reading, but from what I see the jetting is lean, the ground strap should not be clean all the way to the threads, the ground strap should change color at the middle of the bend.
Hope this helps.

First this sled takes a LONG time to color plugs.

I will also vote LEAN.

glad i never posted pics of my plugs then,,,,, i am much leaner than that.

i wonder how my sled will hold rpm and not act lean?
maybe when i get a response from ecp,,, i will be much richer.

I think a lot of guys here that used to ride 2 stroke are afraid they're going to burn down if too lean. These engines aren't anything like the chainsaw motors we're used to. They don't burn down when they're a little lean, but you can gain performance by optimizing you A/F ratio. If you want to get it perfect, buy the Air fuel gauge from cyberdyne.

jetting

yes those are lean the man says to run a lite tan colur. an to lean can lead to detenation and blow a hole in a piston i am up to 141.3 s and that mite be a little lean yet i have to run it a little more and check the plugs agian 8)

Yeah that's the problem...but I don't have anywhere to ride right now to test long enough. I know the plugs need more time to get a true color. I spoke to my mechanic today and he said if there is no hesitation or flat spots and the power is consistent then I am fine. The first sign of too lean cond is poor performance. (This 4-stroke stuff really takes a while to wrap your head around...one thing I have to remember...IT"S NOT A 2 STROKE!!))

The machine ran flawlessly so I will put some more miles on it until I can get a better indication. He told me that I should run it in varying cond's (0 - WOT) for about an hour or so. Now I just need to find some snow!![/quote]
