I guess it's that time to check our sleds after what was hopefully a non-eventful storage cycle. My friend Bill (an 05' Warrior owner), has been stumped by an problem with his 02" V-Max 600. Maybe you guys can help. Upon starting the machine the RPMs goes to 5000 and there is no way to lower it. I suspected a vacuum leak or Tors. He did just finish tearing the carbs down for a good pre-season cleaning (he did the draining / fogging ritual last spring). Bill's does the same thing with his Warrior and is proficient in synchronizing etc. without incident, so maybe you can help!

If the screw is adjusted wrong, it'll do that. Also if the idle is set too high.
It could also be a stuck/badly routed cable, AND EVEN it could be a defective TORS switch (carb side - stuck).

Did it do this before he performed the work? If not, it's something he did. Have him retrace his footsteps and check LB's suggestions. If it did it before have him squirt wd-40 on the crank seals as it's running and see if the idle changes. I had a 2 smoke several years back that did the same thing. The lips of the crank seal stuck to the crank during storage and tore when I fired it up. Replaced the seals and all was well again. Unfortunately it wasn't a quick simple fix

Check to see carb boots are sealed into the carbs.
