Prep for powdercoat

I've got someone that can powdercoat some parts for me pretty cheap, but I need to prep them for him. I've never had something coated before, so not sure what all needs to be done. Do I just need to get them blasted down to bare metal? Is sandblasting the best way to do it, or is there a better way to get the original finish off? Anything else that needs to be done after the old finish is off? I did a little searching on the internet, but didn't find anything real detailed on the steps involved.

I'm planning on having my A-arms and front bumper done in white.

I don’t know what you are paying but halfbaked is doing mine for $145.00.That’s

4 A arms and 2 springs for that price, I do nothing just put them in the
mail.

your just gonna want to blast your bumper, and as far as the A-arms, you need to press out both lower balljoints, remove both uppers, and remove all you bushings. then blast them too. it's also handy to figure out what taps, and sanding wheels your going to need for preping the parts once they are powdered. the bushings, and balljoints will not fit right with thick powder in the threads, bearing pockets, ext. I've always eathier sand blasted, or just sent my parts to get done. I have heard of guys media blasting or bead blasting some parts, but I'm not real shur what the benifits are.
 
I've got the bushings out (ulmer bushing set will be on its way shortly!), the upper ball joints are removed, haven't pressed out the lowers yet. I thought they normally plug the threads and bushing openings before coating the parts? Like I said, 1st time I've had something coated, so not sure.

Badger - I got a price from halfbaked, and I'm getting mine done for about 1/3 cost. Not some guy in his garage, just that I've got a connection at a place that coats parts for bikes.

Way to go, save the cash. I wish I had known someone who could save

me money like that.

For what your time is worth, if you don't have access to a parts blasting cabinet, it would be worth it to pay the extra cash to have ot done by the person doing the coating. That way if you have any issues, you won't be partially resoinsible for any errors in prep. I've had Brian @ Half baked do quite a bit of stuff for me, and trust me, it's worth it! I've blasted my own parts for them as well, but they still have to go over them again, and also be sure there is no oil residue.
