2006 Yamaha Apex
I heard this issue was common with Yamaha 2 strokes, but I am curious if anyone has had this issue with an Apex? The previous owner had a clutch kit installed on this 2006 Apex and with running the harder rubber OE belts I think that is what may have caused this. I also have 9500 miles on it, but know many others way past that point and haven't done any clutch work. I can catch these cracks with a pick. Is the clutch at a point where it is a hazard and needs to be replaced? Has anyone ran a Comet Clutch on an Apex?

I have seen many of these clutches that look just like your pic.......nothing to worry about.

This is very common. It is due to lack of belt squeeze at engagement. An ultimax xs805 is a more expensive belt than oe belt, but is softer and has more grip. The belt change helps but to further remedy the problem swap your primary spring out to one with a lower preload but has a similar spring rate and finish rate. I recommend the o-p-o, short or long, the short being the lowest engagement of the two. A more aggressive weight will also add belt squeeze force but may not be what you are looking for.
