If it's kinda murky brown, then there's probably been water after getting in it. Its not hard to change it at all.
On the bottom of the chaincase there's a plug, 12mm i think but it could be 10. Just take that out, let it drain, reinstall and then fill it up again. Yammi sells chain/gear oil, for snowmobile applications in small bottles, 375 ml i think, which is the necessary amount. They charge 4 bucks here in Canada for it.
To get at the bottom of the chain case though, you have to take off the lower right cover. First, take off the main right cover, with the 4 allen key screw/clip things. To get the lower cover off, there is another allen head bolt, near the footwell, either on or below the running boards, and either two or three bolts further along all the way up to the front. Just remove all these and you should be able to see the drain plug in the chain case.
All in all, this is one the most simple maintenance procedures on these machines. IT's fairly simple and only takes about a half hour or so.
