I checked my chain case oil on the 07 PZ, and the level was fine but the colour was a little cloudy brown. I was expecting it to be clear. Looked like when water gets in mixed in. Just wondering what is normal. Is changing the oil a big deal? It not in my owners manual. Thanks

If it's kinda murky brown, then there's probably been water after getting in it. Its not hard to change it at all.
On the bottom of the chaincase there's a plug, 12mm i think but it could be 10. Just take that out, let it drain, reinstall and then fill it up again. Yammi sells chain/gear oil, for snowmobile applications in small bottles, 375 ml i think, which is the necessary amount. They charge 4 bucks here in Canada for it.
To get at the bottom of the chain case though, you have to take off the lower right cover. First, take off the main right cover, with the 4 allen key screw/clip things. To get the lower cover off, there is another allen head bolt, near the footwell, either on or below the running boards, and either two or three bolts further along all the way up to the front. Just remove all these and you should be able to see the drain plug in the chain case.
All in all, this is one the most simple maintenance procedures on these machines. IT's fairly simple and only takes about a half hour or so.

Going over the MTX last weekend and decided to recheck the chaincase, thinking I must have changed it at the end of season when I did the oil change. Well it appears not to be the case, it was the worst looking case fluid I've seen. I do know I changed it after the first 400 miles but with only 800 more it deffinently had moisture contamination in it. I'm just kicking myself for not catching it before storage. The vent on the case is different than the other models, (for what reason I don't know) it's actually in the cover seal at the top right. At any rate I eneded up pulling the cover and cleaning everything off, which buy the way requires removing several components but all in all not a difficult job. Since the same fluid is directed to the rev. gearbox I am planning to change it shortly (50 miles or less) to remove the bad fluid that's still in the gearbox. It may take a few changes to get all of it but it's the only way short of pulling the rev. that I can see. We'll see how it goes.

80W-90 I buy the quarts of Yamaha Shaft-drive lube, change the oil every 500 miles or so, and never had a problem. Everybody uses something different but the main thing is to have lube.

I use ATF in my gear box. Course I am in and out of there alot but it actualy works pretty good.
