Finally got my 13 Apex SE out for two days of fun. Sled ran better then I had hoped. I got rid of a 07 A/C Crossfire 1000 to get the Apex. The Apex is sooo much nicer! Quick question. I think the belt may be slightly out of alignment? I noticed a little squealing when I let off the throttle, and also heard some belt squealing once or twice when I took off from a dead stop. I just got back late last nite and have not checked it out. Any thoughts from the experts out there? Thanks.

If the belt is a little tight, it will squeel at an idle on occasion. If it continues after a few hundred miles, you can loosen up the belt deflection slightly by removing 3 washers (.5mm), to the three bolts at the backside of the secondary clutch. Procedure should be in the owners manual.

The squealing is not normal, if it continues you better adjust it.

If you have never ridden yamaha before then I will tell you this I find the clutch and drive mechanism do make that winding noise it did it on my 97 triple, on a phazer I rode and on my apex. It's normal and actually sounds cool IMO. I'd have to hear yours to see if it's the same of course but I'd bet my boots that's whats going on so in that case. Ride it!

Thanks for the response. I own 3 Vmax 4's and a Vmax 600 so have driven some Yamaha's. the squealing I hear is during motor breaking (when I let off throttle). It is just a slight squeal. It also made a little louder squeal twice when I took off from a dead stop. I talked to the service manager at my Yamaha dealer today and decided to drive it on a second trip and see what happens.

Yamaha did a great job with this sled. After the first 250 miles there's not a thing I would change. I pretty much just ride trails and the Apex is a perfect trail sled. Thanks again for the responses! :yam:
