Could use some advice...
Blew out the Turbo to Header gasket this weekend on my CPR trail turbo (GT2554). (Was relieved it wasn't a cracked header!)
I can probably get at the front bolts if I take off the coolant hose & fitting from the right side of the turbo.
One back bolt (the one on the right) will come off pretty easy the other is blocked by the downpipe..
If I have to remove the 5 allen head bolts that hold the downpipe flange to the turbo what is the best way to do this? I put a little pressure on them last night & they seem to be pretty tight and I started getting nervious about breaking them off. Should I throw some heat on the housing where they bolt in?
Put a 3/8" air wrench to them? (remember these are allen head bolts)
Thanks
Tony
ps when it goes back together do I use any high temp sealant on the turbo to header gasket? Or just put them in dry? I don't think there is a gasket on the downpipe side should I use some high temp there..?

Don't bother with the high temp sealer! It will never with stand the 1800* temps!!

I found that sometimes I had to head the turbo exhaust section with a propane torch to get it to let the bolts out. I had stripped a few when I was taking it apart alot. If I were doing it again I would do just that heat it with propane torch and it seems to let the bolts loose.

Are you sure that the gasket is shot ? The bolts are notorious for coming loose after a few trips. I think that the heat causes them to stretch and the weight of a 14# turbo bouncing around doesn't help matters any either.

I'm 95% sure it's gone. I'll still have to remove the the down tube to get at one of the bolts so I'll get a better look at it then. I'm thinking even if it was still in there it probably wouldn't seal up again.. I have couple gaskets (one spare)coming but I still need to try to round up a couple of springs for the ball connector on the downtube since they must have been over heated from the leak so they are shot. Anyone know where I could get them?
