My 08 MTX has been overheating a few times during the early part of the day.
I understand that low/hard snow conditions may be a large factor.
However, I it occurred to me that I have never heard the fan running.
Questions:
- How loud is the fan - should I be able to hear it while the motor is running?
- If the temp warning light comes on and I shut down the engine should the fan be running in an attempt to cool things down or does it shut off when the ignition is turned off?
- When you guys are riding does the fan routinely turn on?
- Is there test to see if it's running properly?
- If it is not working is there some common problem that I should focus on? (will check fuses)
Thanks.

I can only hear my fan at idle or right after I shut down.
Ice scratchers will be your friend.

I was on a ride a couple weeks ago that I bet we rode 10 miles on icey road with VERY minimal snow and I couldnt believe I never once had an overheating issue.. I only had one scratcher at the time also. I could hear the fan running alot, but like swelly, only stopped or after I turned it off.

You can test the fan when you enter the MODE setup on the speedo gauge.
You press and hold both buttons on the left side of the gauge down for 10 seconds, the your in the MODE setup.
