Has any found a way of keeping the RA cable operational? I've gone through 5 of them now and run without 1 for the last 2 years. I had my shock re-valved by Pioneer and would like to be able to use it for more than 1 or 2 rides.

Yes, I saw that thread, was going to build something similar but thought that I would check to see if there was a better answer. The problem with that is that it will get all iced over and you have to chip it all out before adjusting.

Maybe you could slip a bag or length of hose over it to keep it dry.

On my 2006 Attak, I went through the first one after a couple thousand miles. I got it covered under warranty, but didn't want to go through the hassel again. What I did that permanently fixed it was to install an old Enticer "slider" in the place of the upper slider near where the cable crosses from the tunnel to the shock. I had one in my parts bin from a '80 300 Enticer. It's a lot longer and has a hole which I passed the cable through. The bolt holes lined right up with the previous part. This eliminated the problem and 4000 miles later it still worked as advertised.
It's number 29 on the photo.

Would it be possible for you to get me a part no as I looked the the parts fiche on the '80 and '81 340's and could not find the part that you indicated.

I'll look in my parts bin and see if I have any. You can have them if I do, although they'd be used. It's possible you can still find NOS from a dealer.

Cable on my 11 Apex failed at the end of the first season. The cable housing had swollen up in one spot and burst so i knew water was getting in somehow. I took the tunnel adjuster apart and it had water in it, some rust and no sign of lube. IMO water was getting in the cable housing from the adjuster and freezing then the housing burst. I cleaned the tunnel adjuster and filled it with good grease and ran all last season with no issue. One more thing to add to the yearly maintenance schedule.
