I see yamaha has a semi rigid set of handguards, is anyone here using them?
I have not seen many others for this machine due to the hard mounting position of the brackets.

I have them on my 06. Not really sure what they are good for. I use gautlets when it gets cold.
How are your handwarmers?

The handwarmers are fine, but the backs of the hands still get cold, so I have to get some kind of guard, and wondered how good the yamaha ones were.

they suck!
They suck, I have a pair and they are to small to help and become distorted with the cover on. Pwermad with the extenders are the best, Rox makes some nice mounts and several other companies for the Apex. Also the harder, bigger Nytro deflectors work good with the Yamaha mounts.
On your other questions, sefl tapping torx headed gold coated screws for the track, some guys are using 1.5" set screws and pre drilling the fingers then running the set screw into it with a drill and special bit...there is another thread about this. The TORS won't activate if you by a PIVOTING riser and role the bars "forward" this gives you more cable room, also relocate the throttle cable to a closer route, you will like the bars forward, helps get the wieght over the motor more. Stock exiting exhaust, would be Bender race or Hauck for the best sound, also Excell makes a rear exiting exhaust that is really nice but pricey! You tube has a lot of clips where you can hear the different sounds. Hartman Inc. has the 411 on clutching etc. call Tom and he has a wealth of knowledge to help you out. I run a shockwave helix because I ride from sea level to 6000 ft. sometimes in a day and it's SOOOO nice to turn the helix and gain your rpm's back with elevation changes. Another guy with some mods and knowledge is "NIKO" he's recently bought an Apex, last year I think and has done some good mods. I sent all my shocks to Carver this year and had them re-valved with 3 stage valving what a difference this has made! Next thing I want to do is change to a K-Mod suspension or Timbersled.....I'm heavily considering the turbo kit Ulmer sells...simple and effective!

I just looked in the yamaha accessory book and they list nytro covers, do they come with mounts? how can I make them fit my apex?

hand guards
I would buy the Yamaha mounts and put the Nytro style hand guards on the Apex mounts. The plastic Nytro hand guards don't have a name on them and will bolt to the Apex mounts. They are bigger and function better then the Apex version offered by Yamaha. The Powermad guards with the extensions are nice to and can be found with mounts for a Yamaha Apex. Just look at some of the web sites carrying the various hand guards and you'll find what you need.

NICE!!!
Yeah that would be cool to see the conversion. I want to try and run a set of Nytro guards on my mounts , I wish you could get them great big extension covers without the Name NYTRO on them so us Apex guys could enjoy some hand warmth and protection. Looking forward to the pics!
