My lock nut on my rear skid shock was cross threaded from the factory. I couldn't move it one bit. I pulled the skid and put a pipe wrench on it. Pretty much ruined all the threads. Anyone else ever had any problems with theirs?

omg did you ever f that up!

take a flat blade screw driver and a hammer....take the flat at a 45 degree on the lock nut at a 90 degree angle and give it some hard blows...once loose....take some thread cutting oil and chase the threads out. obtain a new loack nut and regular nut....only use a screwdriver to jam the locknut...make sure the blade is deep in the crevice...

That doesn't look cross-threaded to me. It looks like the damage was done by turning both the nuts at the same time without separating the two.

Given that the threads are gone down to the root, you're not going to have any luck getting a nut to hold in the area where the threads have been stripped off the shock body. At a minimum you're out the two nuts and probably the shock altogether.

For future reference; a pipe wrench isn't a mechanic's tool.

I was going to say that too but I think he's figured that out by now.. :o|

Cut the nuts off, carefully, then reinstall new ones from the bottom. Put in some type of spacer, between the nuts and the spring, to get the proper preload.

Good plan.

10-points for you.

The problem was the lock nut was cross threaded. When I put the wrench on it and turned just that, it spun around and didn't go anywhere. I tried to put a screwdriver in it to try to straighten it but it didn't work. I ended up getting it to the bottom and i put on a hygear double rate spring so i am not worried about adjusting it. I took it to the dealer to see if they would warranty it.

There is no way the lock nut was crossed. If it was crossde from the factory all the treads would be fu**** up. Don't want to sound like a dick but I would say you didn't try hard enough to get your lock nut free. Just like arteeek said that damage was done while turning both at the same time. If I was your dealer I would say sorry about your luck.

If a dealer warranties that, he should be name dealer of the year. Let us know.

I didn't turn them both at the same time. Since the lock nut has no threads, I would pry it down with a screwdriver and turn the steel collar. Doesn't matter anyway because I got a new one.
